Dr Sally Cockburn

Dr Sally Cockburn is a working GP whilst incorporating a career as a highly successful medical communicator in print, on radio, and on television. Sally's 15 year media career also includes 9 years as Health presenter on Channel 10's Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton and her own talk back TV show on Channel 7 in the 1990’s.

She constantly raises issues in the media of the importance of animals to human health and wellbeing.

Tyson Goldsack

Ambassador Tyson Goldsack is a Collingwood footballer in the AFL who was a member of the 2010 Premiership team (and kicked the first goal of the game!). Tyson made his debut against the Western Bulldogs in 2007, earning a AFL Rising Star nomination that year. Tyson is an avid dog lover, owning two sausage dogs named Jeff and Archie, and is a keen supporter of Lort Smith

Peter Hitchener

Peter Hitchener has been a highly respected Channel Nine newsreader for 10 years, he says about Lort Smith:

I'm a proud supporter of the Lort Smith Animal Hospital because it cares for injured, sick, and abandoned animals and provides remarkable support for their owners. Lort Smith is an organisation with a long history of commitment to the community, and our city would be the poorer without its services".

Georgie Parker

Georgie Parker, our most recent ambassador, is the winner of 2 Gold Logies and 5 Silver Logies. She’s starred in numerous television dramas from “A Country Practice” to “All Saints”, she’s a fantastic singer, theatre actress and television host: from “Play School” to our own documentary series: Channel 9’s “Animal Emergency” featuring the animals treated and cared for by Lort Smith animal Hospital.

Giaan Rooney

Ambassador Giaan Rooney is an Olympic gold medallist and highly popular presenter for Channel Nine. Giaan adopted her little Jack Russell “Lester” from Lort Smith when he had been relinquished by his owners after an accident in which his leg had to be amputated. Giaan says:

"I have always loved animals. From the day I could walk I wanted nothing more than to find the closest four legged creature and look after it. So when I hear stories of animal cruelty, animal neglect and animal suffering it really hits a nerve.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital cares for any animal that finds itself in this situation, be it veterinary care, re-homing, re-training, or for those who simply have no other options. To me, the staff and volunteers at Lort Smith are true heroes, who dedicate their time, skill and love to animals who more often than not have found themselves in heart-breaking situations. It is a pleasure and a privilege to play any small role I can to raise the awareness of this wonderful institution and continue the care of our fabulous furry mates."
