President, Dr Judith Slocombe

Dr Judith Slocombe established her own veterinary pathology service at home, and grew her business to be the largest veterinary diagnostic group in Australasia. She sold the business in 2001 and has since held senior executive roles in large national corporations in the health and science sectors. In 2001 Judith received Australia’s most prestigious award for women in business: Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year. Judith graduated with an MBA from the Melbourne Business School in 2002 and in 2003 was awarded the Centenary Medal. In 2005 Judith, a mother of nine children, was appointed CEO of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, a national charity with the goal of keeping children safe from violence. Judith also holds numerous directorships, including Open Universities Australia, Agriculture Victoria Services, is President of the Lort Smith Animal Hospital and is a recent past director of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and VicHealth.

Vice President, Mr Glenister Lamont

Mr Glenister Lamont is a professional non-executive director, sitting on a number of publically listed company boards. His consulting business provides investment and strategic advice and investor relations services to listed and private companies. He has participated at all levels through to board, both as an adviser and as practitioner in the formulation of strategy and in its structuring, execution and related financing, both domestically and internationally. Previously General Manager for a top 200 ASX company, he led strategic planning and commercial implementation of business development initiatives, managed all aspects of investor relations and public affairs and oversaw IT for the group. Prior to that as an Executive Director at UBS, he spent more than a decade conducting financial, technical and strategic evaluation of companies and participated in a wide range of corporate transactions. He has international operational management experience and qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering, MBA from IMD Switzerland, Fellow of AICD, and Fellow of Financial Services Institute of Australia.

Vice President, Samantha Baillieu

Samantha serves on a number of family boards of the Yulgilar Group of Companies, including The Yulgilbar Foundation. She is a director of The Myer Foundation, and a member of the Sustainability & Environment Committee, and previously served on the Water & Environment, and Social Justice committees. As well as being a board member of the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal, she is also on the sub-committees of the Small Grants and Seeds of Renewal. She has also recently joined the Rural Education Fund.

Treasurer, Susan Palmer

Susie has been involved with the Lort Smith Animal Hospital for 15 years, is passionate about the Hospital and comes from a long line of animal lovers. She has four Lort Smith graduate companion animals, plus a new pup called Harry.

Susie is both a Board member and an hands on supporter, in the past visiting nursing homes, schools and community events with her Lort Smith dogs - raising awareness of the Hospital and the work we do.

Now working full time as manager of a theatre restaurant, as well as her involvement with and support to the Hospital Susie has had a long history of community involvement, volunteering for many not for profit organisations while juggling a busy professional life in advertising, both here and in Europe.

Director, Virginia Edwards

As a Board Member of 28 years standing, Virginia has seen many changes take place and reports to be privileged to have met and worked with many wonderful people serving The Animal Welfare League of Victoria and running the unique Lort Smith Hospital. Virginia has a firm history with the Hospital, her grandmother was made the Victorian Vice-President of the AWL in 1928 and went on to organise many charity balls raising substantial funds for the Hospital.

During Lort Smith's history, Virginia has been part of the inception and the completion of the new hospital built on the same site as the original building. Contributed to “The Kindness of Strangers” a history of the hospital written by Felicity Jack, discovering a huge amount about Lort Smith and its relationship within the community over a long period, and the awarding of DGR, Deductible Gift Recipient Status, which has helped to boost our fundraising ability. Virginia was a constant on the Board lobbying the Government over 50 years to receive this status.

Virginia has "a delightful cat from Lort Smith named Mr Darcy and a beautiful Golden Retriever called Hallie". She says, "They are the greatest company".

Director, Ivana Gillard

Ivana’s broad management and leadership experience has been developed through a chartered accounting career, various senior management roles and as a consultant.

Prior to working in a consulting role, Ivana’s experience included working as General Manager in a large organisation ($3B turnover, responsible for expenditure of $1.5 billion) and as a project manager on a major organisational change project responsible for identifying and realising opportunities to improve organisational results. Ivana also gained extensive financial experience in Chartered Accounting and in senior financial roles with a public company.

Ivana is a keen community participator and contributes her expertise through a variety of board and committee roles in the not for profit sector, in addition to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

Director, Peter Van Rompaey

Peter is a partner of HWL Ebsworth lawyers, is experienced in commercial and competition law and specifically offers technical expertise in commercial contracts. Peter joined the Lort Smith Board in October 2008.
